What is an Intro to Face Off class like?
Face Off provides a comfortable, judgment free, and creative environment in which to explore the fundamentals of improvisation. Using group games and exercises that any novice can master, our class is ideal for discovering “what improv is” and unlocking the creative potential inside all of us. A Face Off class can be very physical, and is always a lot of fun! At the end of the five week course, you will show off your newly honed improv skills for your friends and family, as you take part in a professionally produced show that features other Face Off students, beer specials, and a super fun BBQ. this is a whole new approach to improv training that leaves you feeling inspired and invigorated!

What comes after the Intro class?

After 5 weeks of mastering the basics, you are ready for your graduation performance! You will perform along side the members of FOUniversity, as they welcome you into the Face Off family. After the intro class you join the regular, on going*, improv exploration that all FOUniversity students take together. We continue to learn and play new short form games, introduce and explore mid and long forms, and delve into the world of experimental improv...all the while having loads of fun and learning the Face Off approach to improvisation.

* Face Off Improv class is ongoing, but requires a 5 week commitment.

Student Jams are always lot of fun! Open to the public, this improv jam features Face Off students and cast members playing games in a fully produced, yet pleasantly casual, and super supportive environment. All current and former Face Off students and cast members are welcome to stop and play! There is usually an awesome BBQ and 4 Yuengling's for $10!

What is the Face Off approach?
Well, obviously you will need to take a class to really get into it, but in a nut shell, we focus on the honesty of the work and characters, the onstage connection between improvisers, and the active, physical brand of comedy that has set us apart from all the others. The Face Off approach is a melting pot of styles and disciplines from all over the country, and is layered with decades of stage experience and production, all with an eye on performance.

How do I sign up for a Face Off class?
You can register for the next available class right here on our website. Simply pay with your credit card below and you're all set! You can choose to pay for the entire class ($150) now, or you can pay the minimum deposit ($50) and bring the remaining balance to your first class. You will receive an email conformation from Face Off University with all the details of your upcoming class. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can move in, and you may bring a beverage if you'd like.

Face Off Improv Workshops

Intro to Improv – FOU Provides a comfortable, judgment free, and creative environment in which to explore the fundamentals of improvisation. Using group games and exercises that any novice can master, this workshop is ideal for discovering “what improv is." Perfect for schools, camps, clubs, cruise-line activities, theatre companies, or anyone who wants to give this fast growing art form a try. This workshop can be tailored to any age group or experience level, and is designed to be fun and relaxed. So put on some comfortable clothes, and leave all your insecurities at the door!

Short Form Improv for Performance – This workshop is for any group or improv troupe who is ready to learn how to use the gimmicks of the game, explore the concepts of scene work fundamentals, and learn the Face Off approach to improvisation. We emphasize focus, clear choices, characters, honesty in the reality of the moment, and how to use team work to identify what the scene is about. The Face Off approach is based on many schools of thought, including iO (formerly Improv Olympic), The Annoyance Theatre, Strike Force, Second City, Comedy Sportz, and Viola Spolin. Our combined years of training have been put into practical application by running full time open-run short form improv shows since 1996. This on stage experience has been invaluable in learning what works and what does not. Let the highly skilled FOU instructors help transform your group from good to great.

Advanced Improv Technique – This workshop is reserved for those with a minimum of 2 years of stage experience in improv performance. Delve into the world of advanced theory and game play taught by instructors who have the training and experience to show you how to use the gimmicks of the games to your advantage. Combine that with advanced side-coaching in scene work and this is a workshop for those who are serious about becoming stronger improvisers who consistently make stronger choices. This is a master-class, therefore a sound understanding of the fundamentals of improvisation are required and is ideal for any professional improv troupe looking to further their development with a fresh new perspective.
