Joe Tex has been performing, teaching, and producing comedy professionally since 1998. He began his life long study at the now legendary college training ground Theatre Strike Force, at the University of Florida, where he co-founded the highly successful short-form improv and sketch comedy troupe Anatomically Correct Improv Ink. ACII performed for 65,000 at the 1998 Gator Growl, opening for Dave Chappelle and Ray Romano.
He then headed to The Windy City where he starred in the long running hit show Tony N Tina's Wedding, and attended countless workshops and classes with some of the best instructors in comedy at the iO and Annoyance Theatres.
Returning home to New York, Joe was cast in Friday Night Face Off, and served as Creative Director from 2003 to 2007. FNFO during that time enjoyed 53 consecutive sold out performances, had a brief run on a local cable access network, and became Long Islands number 1 improv comedy show (in a market of 3 million).
Today, he is the Director of Operations, a Performer, and a Teaching Artist at Face Off Unlimited. Joe performs in and helped create BATSU! and A Whole 'Nother Level. He and can be seen on TV sometimes, in the background of a few films, and in all sorts of comedy shorts on Funny Or Die and PMSports. Recently, he portrayed Launce and the Duke in Face Off Unlimited's and the Beyond Theatre Ensemble's production of Shakespeare’s The Two Gentleman of Verona, and people said he was pretty good, although the dog upstaged him quite a bit.
Joe served as festival coordinator for the 2011 Queens Fringe: All Day Improv Festival, which featured 22 performances of the finest teams and players in New York City, Chicago, and seven other cities. The festival helped shed a light on the thriving improv community of Long Island City and Astoria, Queens.
In 2009 and 2010 he worked as a content producer for the DVD*TV network and it's Live Laughs channel. Traveling around the country filming the best in live stand up, sketch, and improv comedy, including the debut album of comedian Ben Morrison called Theatre Degree, available on iTunes...you should definitely buy it.
He is a former US Marine and decorated veteran of Operation Desert Storm, earning him the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal. He served with some of the finest devil dogs in the world while aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Eisenhower (CVN-69) as part of it's MARDET. The thing he is most proud of however, is that he quit smoking over two years ago! He is currently co-writing the improv textbook "SHORT FORM! an advanced guide." Tex co-wrote the future smash hit, and country anthem, "Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda." He loves his family and friends, can't believe his nephew is old enough to drive, and is enjoying this journey!
He currently resides in New York City and lives in the House of Improv.
